Addressing a weekly press conference on Monday, Kanaani responded to a question about Iran’s announcement of readiness to take the final steps to revive the JCPOA and the answer provided by the Europeans.
Kanaani said that such an answer must be an operational one, adding that the fact that Europeans are still willing to negotiate about the JCPOA shows that they must take a practical step.
He added that Iran has stated many times that its foreign policy is not tied to the JCPOA and talks aimed at reviving the deal, adding that the country follows a path of boosting relations with its neighbors.
The spokesman said that the Baghdad Conference held last week in Jordan was a good opportunity for dialogue between Iran and European Union (EU) officials.
He added that Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian had complained about European countries’ interference in Iran’s internal affairs during the recent riots in the country in a meeting with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in the Jordanian capital Amman.
Kanaani noted that the Iranian foreign minister had also warned that Western countries' continued delivery of weapons to Ukraine will not help resolve a conflict between the country and Russia.
The Iranian diplomat said the invitation extended to Iran to attend the Baghdad Conference and the host country’s emphasis on the importance of Iran's presence in this summit, as well as the various meetings held on the sidelines of the summit between Iranian officials and other participants was a sign of the growing importance of Iran's role in the region.
Reacting to allegations made by the Ukrainian president against Iran with regard to the use of Iranian drones in the war in the country, Kanaani said that making accusations will not do anything to help Ukrainian people and leaders in the current war.
“Once again, we emphasize that we are not part of the war in Ukraine and we are ready to help resolve the crisis and establish peace. We consider threatening language from any authority as irresponsible,” he said, adding that Iran will hold the Ukrainian government responsible for the political and legal consequences of such threatening remarks.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Kanaani held US administration accountable for assassinating General Qasem Soleimani while reiterating that legal actions will be taken to pursue the case according the international laws and regulations.
Regarding the Iranian foreign minister's initiative to hold a joint meeting of regional defense ministers, the foreign ministry spokesman said that the current Iranian administration’s policy is to strengthen ties with neighbors.
"FM Amirabdollahian’s initiative in his speech at the Tehran Dialogue Forum was a part of Iran's approach to strengthen its neighborhood policy based on joint meetings between foreign and defense ministers and between defense ministers,” he noted.
Reacting to remarks by Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister hopeful of the Zionist regime of Israel, on normalizing relations with Saudi Arabia, Kanaani said that Iran has a clear position on the illegal and illegitimate nature of the Zionist regime.
“We believe that developing ties and the normalization of relations between Arab and Muslim countries and the Zionist regime will not contribute to strengthening of stability, security and peace in the region.
“The Palestinian nation has not welcomed the normalization of relations, the nations in the region have also shown that they do not welcome the normalization of relations between some Islamic and Arab governments and the Zionist regime, and they do not accept it,” he said.
Regarding the recent riots in Iran, Kanaani said Iran will not forget West’s illegal acts and interventionist moves during the unrest in the country.
Touching upon the Sunday arrests in the southeastern Iranian province of Kerman of saboteurs linked to Britain, Kanaani said that nationals of certain countries, especially countries in Western Europe, have played a clear role in recent riots in Iran and there are detailed information about such involvement.
Regarding Taliban’s decision to prevent girls from education, he said that Iran has announced its position on the issue and hopes that authorities in Afghanistan will solve the problem.
Commenting on relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, he said that the two countries seems to have agreed on a constructive approach to rebuild their ties.
He said both Iran and Saudi Arabia trust Iraq as a mediator in their diplomatic talks.
“Five rounds of negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia have been held in Baghdad and our friends (in Iraq) made good efforts,” he said.
